1.       Lesson
  • Eph 1:20-23 God raised Jesus from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. 22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
  •  Who is Jesus?
    • Died and rose again — death could not hold Him
    • Seated at God’s right hand in the heavenly places — His work is finished, that’s why He is sitting down
    • Above all powers and name — over all time, past, present, future
    • All things are put under His feet — everything (physical, spiritual, big things, small things) are under His control
    • Head over all things
    • Jesus is King of EVERYTHING!
      • Jesus has royal lineage from both Joseph and Mary
      • Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit

  • Who are we?
    • The church
    • Jesus’ body
    • Filled with Jesus Jesus has given us, His church, His power to use us for His purposes and make us into what we were meant to be. We can display His power and authority on earth.
    • Jesus is King, and we REIGN with Him!
      • Rev 1:5  And from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, 6 and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
      • Rev 5:10 And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth.”
      • Rom 5:10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life
        • Christ’s death:
          • delivered from wrath of God
          • reconciled with God
          • sure of our hope of heaven
        • Christ’s life (in us):
          • enables us to live life fully on earth
          • We reign in life through Christ!
We can have kingly dominion over the challenges that come our way

  • Conclusion:
    • Jesus is our King
    • His death and life has given us victory
    • He has made us kings with Him
    • We reign in life by receiving His:
      • abundance of grace
      • gift of righteousness

Because of Jesus, I am a CHILD of GOD (Eph 1)

1.       Lesson
Eph 1:3-6 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

  • Introduction:
    • Last month, we learnt that we are SAINTS of GOD. Because of Jesus, God looks at us as if we were holy and righteous.
    •  Today, we look at what God has done so that we can be called Sons & Daughters of God
    • Paul tells the people in Ephesus that God loves them very, very much.
      • God loved and chose us even before the world was even created.
      • Can you imagine someone loving you before you were even born?
    • But we didn’t love God. In fact, we were His enemies — we liked to do things our own way.
    • God still loved us so much, so He adopted us as His sons and daughters.
    • How did God do that? Because of JESUS.
      • Jesus died for us, and His blood bought our freedom. His blood washed away our sins.
      • Because of Jesus’ life in us, we have been made sons and daughters of God.
      • Because of Jesus, God blesses us and showers His kindness and wisdom on us.
      • Because of Jesus, we have an inheritance as God’s children.
      • And as a guarantee of this inheritance, God gave us His Holy Spirit to live in us forever and ever.
    • So believing in Jesus is not a set of rules — “You must do this. You must not do that.”
    • It’s all about a relationship with your Daddy in heaven who loves you so much. When you know Him as your Daddy, you will begin to love Him more and more, and learn to love Him and do the things that make Him happy.
    • Tell your friend, “Because of Jesus, I am a child of God.”
    • Memory Verse: Eph 1:5 Because of His love, God had already decided that through Jesus Christ, He would make us His children. (Good News Version)
2.       Activity Suggestions
  • Memory Verse search game
    • Write memory verse on cards and hide them around the room (one word per card). Get kids to search for the cards and unjumble words to form the memory verse
  • Sharing: What does it mean for God to be my Daddy?
  • Craft (optional):
    • Bookmark: Thank you Jesus for making me a Child of God

Because of Jesus, I am a SAINT of GOD (Eph 1)

Categories: Children's Church

1.       Lesson
Eph 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints who are in Ephesus, and faithful in Christ Jesus …

  • Introduction:
    • The apostle Paul visited a place called Ephesus and taught about Jesus. Later on, He wrote a letter to the believers there. He wanted to remind them about what Jesus has done for them, and who they are.
    • Isn’t that funny? Reminding someone about who they are. Imagine someone coming up to me and saying, “Hi. You are Anne/Joanna etc.” Who will forget who they are?
    • But many people do. When they look at themselves, they see the physical. They see the short, fat person, or the one who didn’t do well in exams, or the one with a pimple, or the one with a bad temper.
    • They don’t see the person whom God sees. They focus on what is outside and forget who they really are.
    • So today we’re going to remind ourselves of who we are in Jesus. Who God sees when He looks at us.
  • Because of Jesus, I am a SAINT
    • In His letter, Paul addresses the believers in Ephesus as SAINTS.
    • What’s a saint?
      • A saint is not a goody-goody two shoes who walks around in a long robe with a halo on the top of his head.
      • A saint is someone who is holy, set apart for God.
    • When Jesus died, He took all our sins, our “badness”, and gave us His goodness. He gave us His life.
    • So today, when God sees me, He sees Jesus’ perfection and holiness.
    • You and I are holy saints because Jesus lives in us and through us.
    • Tell your friend, “Because of Jesus, I am a saint.”
    • Because we are saint, we don’t have to do be stuck doing things that are not good. We are free to live the life that God wants us to live and experience.
    • We don’t have to work hard to be good. We don’t have to try with our own strength to be good.
    • We just need to remember: Jesus is living in me. And He makes me good!
    • So when we feel like doing naughty things, or we think of doing something that will make our mummy and daddy sad, remember that you are a saint — Jesus has made you good — so you can be good; you don’t have to do that naughty thing or make your mummy and daddy sad anymore.
    • And even when you do something bad, it doesn’t change who you are. You may make mistakes, but God still sees you as good.
    • Just remind yourself of who you are and what Jesus has done for you. You can pray, “Lord Jesus, sorry for the naughty thing I did. I thank you that you have forgiven my sins. Thank you that I am holy and that I am Your righteousness. Thank you that I am a saint because of You.
    • Memory Verse: Hebrews 10:10 “We have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”

2.  Activity Ideas
  • Craft: Nametag
    • Get kids to make nametags with the words: <Name> is a Saint of God
    •  You may cut out name tags in different shapes and colours, and put a safety pin behind card.
  • Memory verse
    • Prepare 2 sets of memory verse cards (one word per card) and put each set in an envelope each. Divide kids into 2 groups. Hand each group and envelope to sort and arrange memory verse on the floor. First group to finish correctly wins.
    • Using same sets of cards: put blue tack behind cards and place face down on floor in 2 piles. Kids line up in 2 rows. First kid from each group runs forward, picks up a card, and sticks on wall to form memory verse. First group to finish correctly wins.
